don't mean to ruffle feathers, but i don't understand the hate and fear of of Trump. He is a very flawed man for sure, but i really don't see a reason for feeling despair no matter who won. If Harris would have won, i certainly would not be crying about it. Yes i admit i am happy that Trump won, but he is not my hope or savior, Jesus is.
Who ever is in the oval office is only their temporarily, God is stll God and on the throne and he is in control of all of history past, present and the future.
Such a beautifully heartfelt response. I’ve been a moderate conservative for most of my adult life. I could not vote for Trump and I voted for Kamala, not because she was a worthy candidate but because she was a less dangerous candidate for our country. I’ve come to believe that when my political views supersede my love and allegiance to Jesus and His ways it is idolatry of the worst kind. I so appreciate you.
As I was crying Jeremiah tears this *mourning*, I too realized that the most politically redemptive thing I can do is serve the vulnerable in my community. I do not have the emotional capacity to try and convince anyone of DJT's unfitness to hold the nation's highest office. They don't see the same realities I do. I did my part to elect the person I thought would do less harm; now I must accept this outcome as one that God will use to further His purposes in my life, the lives of my kids, the church, our country and the world. My prayer is that there will be a collective resolve among God's family to love and serve our neighbors in meaningful ways that are glimpses of His coming Kingdom.
Ohhh thank you! That C.S. Lewis quote is a balm, as are your wise words. A good reminder to be faithful and present to the ordinary life right in front of me.
Beautiful article, but I genuinely worry about the terrible things that can or will happen because Trump is President again that wouldn’t happen if Harris had won.
Care to say what they might be? Genuine question. The first time around it was no new wars, an attempt at rapprochement with N. Korea, a worthy attempt at peace in the Middle East, and a strong economy until "Covid" hit. I would take that again.
All I can say, and this is incredible unscientific, is that America seemed much worse under Biden's administration, and Harris seemed to want to continue that. I don't pretend Trump has any answers, and maybe his people don't either. But Harris certainly doesn't.
Maybe we'll just have to be good people, in the absence of good leaders.
Love your thoughts and your words, but Christians can vote for Trump based on several key issues and STILL work hard to make the world a better place on their own. He is no savior...let me ask you, is Harris? You really believe she aligns with high morals and values better? I'm so tired of this all or nothing...no candidate is perfect, no candidate is going to represent all of my hopes, dreams, morals, values, etc nor is any candidate going to misrepresent every single one of them. The reality is we pick and chose and then go about our lives knowing the good will prevail if WE are willing to personally sacrifice and help and LOVE our fellow humans, regardless of who is in office.
It should be noted that her post wasn't chiefly about Trump but about political idolatry. And she never claimed that pro-Trump Christians are bad Christians. But the opposite sentiment (that anti-Trump Christians are bad or may not be legitimate Christians) is so pervasive.
Hope you don't think I intend to imitate Trump in any way. Yes, I realize this was a political decision not a moral one. By no means does Trump's final position imply he's a Christian, but simply a politician influenced, sometimes, by certain Christian values.
Yes the piece was anti-trump, it is blatantly obvious to anyone. Having said that, that is why I advocate that our politics should be separate from our faith. We are not voting for a savior, we are voting for a sinful man or woman in a fallen world. Their is no reason to despair because our ultimate destination is in heaven with the Lord.
If anyone is despairing over this, you are putting way too much importance to politics and forgetting that we live in a fallen sinful world.

Thank you, Gladys. Your common sense is good to read.

I wrote something similar (though definitely less gifted) so I get it 1,000%. But, tomorrow I hope. Today, I allow myself to grieve.

The ordinary Christian life is the only thing that will change anything. We’re called to the bread and wine over the ballot box every day.
Beautiful, Katelyn, thank you.
Reading through these comments and whew! You are brave. Thank you for writing bravely. It’s very difficult to do (especially in the metaverse). ❤️
I will talk to you in 4 years when none of your dreads will have come true.
Okay, we can talk then. Also, can I use your crystal ball sometime? I'll pay for shipping.

I could not agree more. And even so, f- Trump.

Kristin, seriously, you need to read the room
she is clearly anti-Trump, my point being you can be pro-Trump and not a "bad" Christian for voting that way.
It should be noted that her post wasn't chiefly about Trump but about political idolatry. And she never claimed that pro-Trump Christians are bad Christians. But the opposite sentiment (that anti-Trump Christians are bad or may not be legitimate Christians) is so pervasive.
The abortion issue alone could determine whether someone's a good Christian or not.
Gavin, you lost that bargaining chip when Trump switched his position.

This is exactly my point, Gladys; now is the worst time to be policing how people react to bad news.
yes, I read it and she is anti-Trump
oh, what , I'm not welcome here? That would make sense with your party.
That’s literally her whole point. Did you actually read her piece?
I did and she is clearly anti-Trump
That’s kind of the point of her piece? Curious if you got something different from it.
I did and she is clearly anti-Trump
I am confused as to (1) how anyone would think I wasn't anti-Trump, and (2) why this would be a problem, since this is my personal Substack.
Thank you for this!! I wrote something similar yesterday - eerily also quoting C.S. Lewis, though from a different book:

Well said and much needed.
My wife ran across this piece and loved it, and pointed me to it. Nicely done....
